When Andy Reid decides to walk away for good, the Kansas City Chiefs will be not one, but two legends short.
That’s at least according to Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce, who just helped the organization achieve dynasty status by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 on Sunday.
Questions about Reid’s retirement ran wild leading up to Super Bowl 58, but the legendary head coach has already confirmed that he’ll be back in 2024. If Reid decides to ride off into the sunset after next season? He won’t be the only Cowboy needing a horse.
Speaking on the latest edition of the “New Heights” podcast (h/t Sean Neumann of People) that he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce, Travis stated that he’ll walk away from football once Reid calls it quits:
“I love Coach Reid, Coach Reid knows how much I love to play for him, how much I love to be a product of his coaching career. I’m not playing for anybody else but Big Red. If he calls it quits this year I’m out of there with him, man.”
There were also rumors about Kelce himself potentially looking to call it quits after this season, but the 34-year-old certainly showed zero signs of slowing down during the Chiefs’ latest Super Bowl triumph.
In four postseason games, the future Hall of Famer racked up 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns. If he didn’t miss the Chiefs’ season opener, Kelce would have hit 1,000 yards receiving for the eighth straight year.
Questions about the futures of Reid and Kelce can wait for at least another year, though. For now, the Chiefs can celebrate their special status as a 21st century dynasty.
