Stephen A. Smith never shies away from stating how he hates the Dallas Cowboys. After the trade of the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs happened, Smith didn’t miss a chance to do his routine of taking jibes at the Cowboys, even when the news didn’t even concern the Dallas based team.

Via ESPN show, the First Take, the analyst claimed the trade would help the best team in Texas, which, according to Smith, is the Houston Texans, to gather more strength. He also reiterated his age-old prediction that the Cowboys would not only fail to win the Super Bowl but wouldn’t even be the best team in their state.

The big headline is [the Texans] are probably the best team in TexasI don’t know if it’s on the schedule, but I’m hoping it’s Houston against Dallas. Down in Dallas, Texas, so what’s going to happen with those Dallas Cowboys is they’re going to sit up there and they’re going to monitor this situation. And it’s one thing for you not to win a Super Bowl. That’s bad enough. It’s one thing for you not to make an NFC Championship Game in 29 years. That’s even worse. But it’s another thing entirely when you ain’t even the best team in Texas.

Last season, the Houston Texans team attracted a lot of eyes after they managed to make it to the playoffs after four years. The inclusion of the then-rookie quarterback CJ Stroud brought back magic in the team. In addition, the head coach DeMeco Ryans also had a positive impact on the squad. This season, they are eying for more and the inclusion of Stefon Diggs can serve their aspirations.

Stephen A. Smith compared the situation of the two teams

Adding to his points on the Diggs trade, Smith claimed that the Houston Texans will be an even better team in the coming season. The analyst feels that the Houston team has its majority of issues resolved. Unlike the Cowboys, the team has none to extend contracts for. The Cowboys are presently suffering with the extension of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

They’ve got a younger quarterback, they have the better coach. And these brothers ain’t going to cost $60 million against your cap right now. You’ve got to pay CeeDee Lamb. You’ve got to pay Dak Prescott. You’ve got to figure out a way to pay Micah Parsons. And all the Houston Texans are doing is saying, ‘Howdy. We’re here. And our focus is on the right things.'

Smith does have some valid points in his argument of Texans getting the better end of the stick. Not worrying about humongous contracts and a well-functioning ‘young team’ has a better chance down the road, in this case, that being Stroud’s team.

Last season, the Cowboys had a fantastic regular season, bagging the NFC East division in the process. However, that failed to impress Smith due to Dallas’ age-old playoff misfortune.
