Carson Wentz could prove to be the Nick Foles to Patrick Mahomes. On Monday, Wentz agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, making it his fifth NFL team in eight years.

Carson Wentz spent the last seaso

n with the Los Angeles Rams, backing up Matthew Stafford. He started the last game of the regular season so that the Rams could give the 36-year-old some much-needed break. Wentz threw for 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

The Rams signed Jimmy Garoppolo last month, which was the signal for Wentz’s departure. NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared that the Chiefs had agreed to sign the former Super Bowl winner to a one-year deal on social media, which was later confirmed by the NFL’s official handle.

Blaine Gabbert was second in line for Patrick Mahomes at the Chiefs in 2023. The former Buccaneer only started one game en route to Super Bowl LVIII, and he is now a free agent as his one-year contract has ended.

The Chiefs replaced Gabbert with Wentz, who has a better track record compared to the former Titans QB. However, luck hasn’t been on his side. In 2017, while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in 2016, Wentz went 11-3 in the regular season.

However, an untimely injury cost him playoff time. Veteran Nick Foles took over and heroically led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory. A section of social media suspects history might repeat itself.

Wentz’s luck ran out after that. His output saw a massive dip in the following years, which led to the Eagles cutting him after six seasons.

The Indianapolis Colts picked him up, where he showed signs of revival. However, winning nine games and racking up 27 touchdowns and seven picks wasn’t enough to convince the Colts to give him a long-term contract.

The 31-year-old next played as a stop-gap QB for the Washington Commanders, where he won just 2 of 7 games. He was on the move once more, signing with the Rams. ESPN stats showed that during his time in the NFL, Carson Wentz has completed 62.7% of his passes for 22,292 yards, 153 touchdowns, and 67 interceptions.
