The biggest question with the Green Bay Packers this offseason has been whether or not they would extend Jordan Love. Given, the franchise has already utilized his fifth-year contract option when they signed him in a one-year extension last off-season. For now, all anyone can talk about is Love’s future with the Packers.
When the Packers drafted Love back in 2020 despite having Aaron Rodgers in his prime, it appeared to be a surprising move by the franchise. But before Love took over the reign of Rodgers, he had spent three years on the bench, observing and learning from the former NFL MVP.
And when he finally took over, he led the Packers straight to the NFC Divisional round in the playoffs with a 9-8 season record.
There’s no doubt that Green Bay isn’t willing to offer the quarterback a long-term contract, as General Manager Brian Gutekunst has previously mentioned how he is interested in finding a long-term deal satisfactory to both parties. But it’s just a matter of when.
Kurt Benkert breaks silence on Jordan Love’s contract situation
During a recent appearance on UP & Adams with Kay Adams, former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert gave his opinion on whether or not the franchise should be hesitant in offering Love a long-term contract. Benkert, who has previously made a case for Love for the MVP title, believes the quarterback deserves to be paid.

Benkert explained when asked whether the Packers should take the risk with Love based on just one season:
You really have like the last eight to ten games of sample size because the beginning part of the year– can’t really judge him based on that because the receivers were so young, they weren’t running the right routes and the offense looked abysmal.Kurt Benkert said
Coming to the end of the season, the playoffs, the Packers had a running back who ran 100 yards per game for the last six weeks.
He [Jordan Love] is way better than most of the league but stars kind of felt like they aligned a little bit this year but he also should get paid.Kurt Benkert added
The Super Bowl champion also highlighted Love’s perspective, saying he did come through and for that, he deserves to get paid. But at the same time, if the 2023 season is heavily influenced by fortune and the Love situation collapses later on, they will again have a Daniel Jones situation.
