Jed York is expecting that his quarterback, Brock Purdy, will ask for a mammoth contract after the 2024-25 season. Considering the performance of the quarterback in the past two seasons, the 49ers’ CEO York believes that it will be a legitimate claim.

Purdy is entering the last year of his rookie contract. Presently, Purdy draws a yearly salary of $985,000. Much lower than what other quarterbacks in the underachieving teams charge.

In this context, the San Francisco 49ers CEO cleared that his team’s pride lies in spending money on their quarterback. York was speaking to reporters at the NFL’s annual owners’ meetings in Orlando, Florida.

It’s a good problem when you’re quarterback is one of the highest-paid guys on your team and in the league–It’s what the market is. Brock is going to ask for something that no one has ever asked for before. I don’t know how many players are making over $40 million (annually) as a quarterback right now.

York told reporters on Tuesday

The Niners have the legacy to continue ‘most expensive’ deals

Presently, five quarterbacks earn more than 40 million in salary in the league. In the coming season, the Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott can also hit that threshold. Purdy is presently on his moderate rookie $3.7 million contract.

His performance in the coming season will play a vital role in future contract negotiations.

Luckily, the Niners’ CEO is all up for those talks. The team has a history of making huge deals. The Jimmy Garopolo deal was one of the largest signings in the history of the league and the CEO vividly remembers that.

When we signed Jimmy several years ago, it was the largest deal in the history of the NFL, for three minutes--But Jimmy was at ($27.5 million). That’s what the market is and you have to accept the reality of the world. To me, the quarterback is the most important position not just in football, but all of sports, and those guys should be paid a lot of money.

York added

After the success in the last two seasons, the Niners are eying for their final destination, which is the long awaited Super Bowl title. They were an inch close to the title last year. If they want to make repeated attempts for the Lombardi, Purdy’s presence as a surety is what York and the 49ers’ management have to take care of.
