After last season’s poor performance, the New York Jets are eying to turn the table in the upcoming season. In an attempt to restructure their sluggish offense, the team made some good moves this offseason. They signed the likes of Tyron Smith and Mike Williams to their veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers more weapons. Not having a decent OL was a major concern for the Jets last season but this time, they seem to have solved this problem, at least on paper.

However, there is an injury problem that is raising some concerns among the fans. Mike Williams is presently coming back from injury. He has not played much football since the year 2022. Playing for the Chargers in the 2023 season, Williams suffered a left knee injury during week 3 game against the Vikings.

He was later diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear.

Last season, the New York Jets suffered a major setback after veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers ruptured his Achilles tendon. His absence eventually resulted in the team not even making it to the playoffs. Now, if the team had the same problem this season, then it might hurt them badly.

In this context, the head coach Robert Saleh made a big claim. Talking to the press in Orlando, the head coach noted that the WR hasn’t recovered yet. Saleh said that Williams has a long way to go in his recovery but he was positive about the WR getting ready for week 1.

Mike, he's got a long way to go. He's on the same timeline that Breece had. They're very similar injuries, same time frame. He knows he's got a road to trek, but at the same time, if he does it the right way, we're very confident we'll have him ready for Week 1.

Robert Saleh admits Mike Williams will be a tremendous asset for the Jets

Robert Saleh, who has been the head coach of the Jets for the last 3 years, did not hold back his appreciation for Mike Williams. He called Williams a ‘dynamic receiver’ and claimed that the ex-Chargers star will be a big asset for the Jets going ahead.

He's a dynamic receiver. We've been a big fan of his for a while. You say 50-50 ball, but it's more 70-30 when it goes up to him. He's got work to do, but excited if he can accomplish the work that he needs to accomplish, he'll be a tremendous asset to not only himself but to the organization.

Mike Williams, who was drafted 7th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, took a blow after facing an ACL injury in 2023. Midway into the 2022 season too, he aggravated his right ankle injury in Week 11. Coupled with two injuries, the WR had a very difficult time in the past two years. He will be anxiously looking forward to starting a new page with the Jets in a few months.
