Dr. Dre says that Eminem is the best emcee to ever pick up a mic amid questions regarding his ranking among the all-time greats.

On Thursday (March 14), the West Coast legend’s appearance on The Life of Mine With James Corden show aired on SiriusXM, during which he expressed his belief that Eminem skills outclasses that of his rap peers.

“I think he’s the best MC ever,” Dre said of the Detroit native. “Point blank, period. Of course, there are going to be arguments about that because he’s a white guy. I don’t think anyone that’s rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone.”

In December 2023, during an appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast, Dr. Umar blasted assertions that veteran hitmaker was not only the best rap artist in Hip-Hop today, but the greatest of all-time.“No non-African person can be the best anything in African culture,” the Pan-Africanist said at the time. “You can’t be the best cook of African food. You can’t be the best rapper of African Hip-Hop, you can’t be the best singer… nothing that we create, can [white people] be the best at, that’s the first thing.”

Dr. Umar continued, “There’s two billion Africans. Not only are you saying they do it better than two billion Africans, you’re saying that they can do it better than all of the Africans that ever walked the earth. You know and I know that is absolutely ridiculous. From a cultural integrity perspective, this is not about Mr. Marshall Mathers.”

Elsewhere during Dre’s sit-down with Corden, the 59-year-old spoke on his first time meeting and working with Eminem in person, which resulted in the creation of his breakout 1999 single “My Name Is.”

“I put the beat on and he just did that right away,” Dre said of his seemingly instant chemistry with Em. “I hit play on it… and he just went, ‘Hi, my name is.’ It happened that fast. No bullsh*t. And then we went from there and that was the beginning of this relationship.”
