The BBC probe into dancer Giovanni Pernice was also said to be a factor in the decision.

Queen Camilla is a Strictly fan and an insider said: “She found the idea of hosting at the Palace exciting.

“But it was felt by some that the decision to welcome the show might come to be seen in a negative light.”

Italian pro Giovanni, who quit in May, has strenuously denied abusive or threatening behaviour when teaching his celeb partners.

Actress Amanda Abbington, TV host Laura Whitmore and a third star have lodged complaints.

The Palace and the BBC declined to comment yesterday.
