Prince William’s spirited reaction to England’s crucial soccer goal goes viral
The Prince of Wales unleashed a royal fist pump when England tied the game with a late goal before beating Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.
The British royal family usually projects a stoic expression and a stiff upper lip in public during times of tension.
It appears that all goes out the window when Prince William is watching England’s men’s national team play a nail-biter of a soccer game.

The Prince of Wales looked like any enthusiastic fan celebrating at the pub with his mates when England scored a game-tying goal late in an eventual victory on penalty kicks over Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the Euro 2024 tournament.
William was photographed standing and pumping his fist while roaring in celebration after England’s Bukayo Saka tied the game 1-1 with a clutch goal in the 80th minute at Germany’s Dusseldorf Arena on July 6.
As William exuberantly celebrates the goal in the midst of several soccer officials, British Football Association Chair Debbie Hewitt can also be seen right next to him with a look of total shock.
A TikTok video of the moment shows William sitting in consternation, then rising to his seat and clapping with passion and vigor at the moment.
“Prince william enjoying that saka bomb,” one fan posted on X.
“Check out Wills baring his teeth and throwing fists at that penalty shootout win #ThreeLions “ another wrote.
“I must say the one thing I like about Prince William is you can tell he actually loves football and the country unlike nearly every politician you ever see at a game pretending. He just celebrates correctly,” another person posted.
England went on to win the game 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout to advance to face the Netherlands in the semifinals on July 10.
It’s easy to see why the Prince of Wales is so fired up. England is two victories away from winning the championship for the first time in the tournament’s 64-year history.
England reached the finals of the previous Euro tournament before falling to Italy on penalty kicks in 2021. The competition features all the men’s national teams from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and is held every four years. The 2020 tournament was pushed to 2021 due to the pandemic.
William has attended games with his oldest son, Prince George, 10, in the past few years. The two wore matching suits at the 2021 UEFA championship game in which England fell just short against Italy.
