Eiza Gonzalez could not help but lament the lost opportunity to portray Catwoman, one of the most iconic characters in the Batman franchise.

Still, the actress tries to see the silver lining and accept that the role was not meant for her.

Zoe Kravitz ended up taking the part of Selina Kyle in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman helmed by Matt Reeves. Gonzalez was so close to landing the role as she has also done a screen test for it and is one of the top contenders on the list.

Eiza Gonzalez Gets Candid On Losing Catwoman Role

Eiza Gonzalez opened up about her audition for Catwoman in her interview with The Hollywood Reporter and admitted she actually hoped that she would win the part. She recalled feeling heartbroken after she already envisioned herself playing the coveted character on the big screen.

It’s impossible not to do that, especially when you get so far down the line. It’s part of why you’re so far down the line because you’re living and dreaming the character. For my prep for every role, I’m kind of a weirdo, especially when I’m already at the camera test stage or really deep into it. I will live and breathe the character; I’m more traditional in that sense.”

The actress shared that the best lesson she could pick from that unforgettable experience is the fact that she has built relationships with people who would be instrumental in her future career.

It’s always heartbreaking, but what I’ve learned with time, those relationships that you curate and the people that you meet don’t go away. I’ve been in situations where they’ve seen me for different roles that didn’t work out, but then they come around for something else.”

In the end, she is grateful for the opportunity to express her interest in the role and live her dream of playing Catwoman even for just a brief moment. Gonzalez might have lost the role, but she gained more from the experience.

The beauty of our industry is it’s never-ending; it’s always evolving and transforming. I’m just lucky and grateful that I’ve had the chance to meet incredible directors and be part of incredible projects.”

There are still many fans who want Gonzalez to get cast as Catwoman, and it might still happen in the future if there are any projects that would require a new iteration of the character. As always, there are endless possibilities in the world of superhero movies and in the film industry.

Zoe Kravitz Owned Her Version Of Catwoman

It would be interesting to see Eiza Gonzalez’s take on Catwoman after knowing Zoe Kravitz put her own spin on the character. She called Matt Reeves’ The Batman as “origin story” for Selina Kyle, as per Empire:

It’s the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there’s a lot of space to grow, and I think we are watching her become what I’m sure will be the femme fatale.”

It is also interesting that the way Kravitz interpreted her character, which is a queer version of Catwoman, was welcomed by the film’s director. Perhaps in another chance, Gonzalez can also show the world her own rendition of Selina Kyle.
