Anthony Mackie is officially headlining as the successor to Chris Evans’ Cap, with his standalone movie Captain America: Brave New World, alongside Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. But as Mackie gets his own Marvel movie, he seems to have a plan to get back at Tom Holland’s previous comments about not having his own Falcon movie.
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Falcon
After the Spider-Man actor joked at a fan convention in 2021 about Anthony Mackie lacking his own MCU movie, the latter finally found a way to pick a friendly bone with Tom Holland. As the actor is set to appear as Sam Wilson, the next star-spangled hero, Mackie seems to be looking forward to getting his revenge in a light-hearted way.
Tom Holland Took a Playful Dig at Anthony Mackie
Back in 2021, when Tom Holland was doing the rounds promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home, he made a playful dig at Anthony Mackie for not having his standalone Falcon movie in the MCU. Despite appearing as a part of the Avengers, Mackie’s Sam Wilson unfortunately lacked his own movie. By the time Holland had already appeared in two of his standalone films.

Often known for their playful banter, when Tom Holland was asked whether Anthony Mackie boasted to him following the announcement of Captain America 4, the English actor jokingly responded, Falcon “hasn’t got his own movie yet”, during his interview with Comicbook.com. Holland then continued, how Mackie had his own series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but even there, he had to share his hero duties with Sebastian Stan’s Buckey Barnes.
Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
“He hasn’t got his own movie yet. He got a TV show, but he didn’t get his own movie. Also, it’s called ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,’ it’s not called ‘The Falcon.’ I saw that online, everyone was like ‘Anthony Mackie says Tom Holland’s eating his words.’ I’m not eating my words. I said, ‘there is no Falcon movie.’ There isn’t one.”
However, while Tom Holland joked about Anthony Mackie not having his standalone movie, and instead starring in the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it seems the very show presented a chance to put Sam Wilson in the spotlight. Following the storyline of the series, Mackie’s character finally transitioned into becoming a worthy successor to Steve Rogers and taking on his mantle in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.
Anthony Mackie Plans to Get Back at Tom Holland
Now finally as Captain America: Brave New World picks up its production to premiere on 14 February 2025, Anthony Mackie plans to get back at Tom Holland’s previous comments. Set to appear alongside Harrison Ford, who will make his Marvel debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming Captain America movie, Mackie discloses his plan to exact his revenge on Holland.

“He did that on a very public stage, so I’m going to hold that till the premiere. I’m going to make sure that Marvel makes him come to the premiere, and then I’m going to sit him next to me, and I’m going to watch him watch the movie.”
Anthony Mackie’s comments came as a response to Tom Holland’s past jokes about the actor not having his own movie, while Spider-Man has three standalone films in the MCU. Therefore, after Mackie disclosed his lighthearted plan to exact his revenge, fans are now excited to see the playful banter between the two actors.
