A close friend of billionaire Jeff Bezos fled from Gwyneth Paltrow’s Hamptons home after suffering from a ‘catastrophic’ bout of diarrhea that occurred on her bed

Derek Blasberg became the talk of Hollywood after he was accused of being the mystery guest who lost control of his bowels in a bed at Gwyneth Paltrow’s Hamptons home.

Although not as A-list as Paltrow, 51, his presence at her lavish mansion comes as no surprise.

The 42-year-old fashion journalist and author has become a close friend to celebrities like Jeff Bezos, Kate Hudson, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, and Sienna Miller, after years of mingling with the biggest stars.

But despite maintaining a relatively private life unlike some of his A list pals, his recent toilet troubles put him firmly in the spotlight.

Last week, the internet buzzed over a blind item in a popular gossip newsletter alleging that Goop founder Paltrow had to handle ‘Ozempic-induced diarrhea’ cleanup at her home.

Insiders later told DailyMail.com that Blasberg, described as ‘one of showbiz’s most well-connected men,’ was responsible and allegedly blamed the incident on the weight loss drug before fleeing the property.

‘It’s not Ozempic, that’s just what he told everyone,’ the insider said, before revealing how the secret made its way through the Hamptons set.

‘Gwyneth told Oprah, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, and Larry David,’ they continued.

‘It’s shocking how many people know this story and how he has managed to keep it out of The Post… probably via his best friend [socialite Dasha Zhukova] – whose mom just married Rupert Murdoch.’

Indeed, Blasberg met Zhukova in 2009 for a profile which appeared in the July issue of Interview magazine.

At the time, she was known as the ex-girlfriend of tennis ace Marat Safin and had moved on to start a relationship Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich.

The pair spoke about Zhukova opening the Center for Contemporary Culture, known as The Garage, in Moscow and the friendship immediately blossomed – with the pair attending A-list events and being pictured on holiday together in the years that followed.

He then profiled her again in December 2015 for the Gagosian Gallery, where he works as a senior staffer.

The story is one of many similar interactions that turned into lasting friendships for Blasberg as he rose up in the ranks as a fashion journalist.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Blasberg moved to New York City in 2000 to attend New York University.

After graduating in 2004 with degrees in Dramatic Literature and Journalism, he began his career as an assistant at Vogue.

During his magazine career, he became the youngest ever Editor-at-Large at Harper’s Bazaar, and saw his fame rise thanks to his role as Vanity Fair’s Our Man on the Street.

Having also worked as the Editor of V and VMan, and contributing texts to The New York Times, WSJ. Magazine, Elle and Glamour, he was a very familiar face to many of Hollywood’s elite and quickly found himself welcomed into their inner circles.

His face became more recognizable after he served as the host of a reboot of CNN Style in 2016.

The show’s guests included Emma Watson, Karl Lagerfeld,  Kendall Jenner, Charlize Theron, Anna Wintour, and more.

Prior to that, he had co-hosted Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe, and, in 2011, he appeared alongside Alexa Chung on 24 Hour Catwalk.

The writer has most recently worked as the head of fashion and beauty partnerships at YouTube and is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest, and several international editions of Vogue.

For this reason, Blasberg has been no stranger to spending time with Paltrow at her five-bedroom Long Island home, where she hosted her wedding to Brad Falchuk.

In 2022 the fashion expert posted a snap of himself and the actress celebrating her 50th birthday at the sprawling property.

When describing how the pair became friend to The Cut, Paltrow admitted she had questioned if Blasberg was simply a professional hanger-on.

‘When I first met him, I was a little dubious… I was like, “Are you are professional best friend of celebrities? And why are you everywhere at once? What’s your deal?”

‘After ten seconds, I fell completely in love with him,’ she said.

Blasberg himself is known to throw star-studded bashes, with his birthday parties often serving as a warm-up to the Met Gala.

For his 42nd birthday bash in April, A-list stars such as Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Andy Cohen were in attendance.

While his bash in 2022 was attended by Bezos, Hailey Bieber, and Leonardo DiCaprio among others.

Modern Lady, currently resides in New York with his partner, Imaginary co-founder Nick Brown.

Back in 2021, the pair welcomed twins Elizabeth Grace and Frederick Noah, three, via surrogate.

When sharing the happy news with the world, Blasberg wrote: ‘Welcome to the world, Grace and Noah. I am humbled and honored by the arrival of these two magnificent, glorious angels. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to @nickbrown for being a wonderful life partner, best friend and now co-parent.

‘Thank you to our marvelous surrogate for making this longtime dream a reality. Thank you to anyone who was raised in or started their own non-traditional family, and blazed a path for us to start ours.

‘And thank you to our incredible support system of friends, relatives, coworkers, medical professionals, and everyone else (even the lawyers!) who’ve joined us on this journey.’

He added: ‘Whoever said ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ wasn’t a same-sex parent having kids via an out-of-state surrogacy at the tail end of a global pandemic. It took so many villages (and counties, and states, etc) to start our family and we’re profoundly grateful to all of them. This bliss is real.’
